James (Randy) Dean, M.S. Ed Admin
Randy Dean is the current director for The Institute For Restorative Justice and Restorative Dialogue. Dean holds a bachelor’s degree in music education from Troy State University in Alabama and master of science degree in educational administration from The University of Scranton in Pennsylvania. During his career in education, Dean has served as a teacher, coordinator, assistant principal and principal in private, public and charter schools in Texas, Georgia, Alabama and Romania.
From January 1995 to June 2002, Dean and his family lived in Sfantu Gheorghe, Romania where he founded and directed the nonprofit foundation, Fundatia AGAPE. In Sfantu Gheorghe, he served as minister/missionary, humanitarian and educator. For two years, he was a volunteer at Mikes Kelemen High School (a Hungarian-speaking school) where he taught conversational English, Grammar and Composition for grades 7-11.
Dean’s Journey in Restorative Justice includes:
Receiving training from IRJRD, The Texas Education Agency, UT Austin School of Social Work with Dr. Marilyn Armour, and Eastern Mennonite University with Kay Pranis
Implement Restorative Discipline on elementary, middle school and high school campuses
Serving as trainer/facilitator for IRJRD in the TEA state-wide rollout of Restorative Discipline (Link to TEA Restorative Discipline Practices)
